Lake Local Schools has implemented many areas of updated technology, many as a result of the 2010 tornado which destroyed the High School and severely damaged the Middle and Elementary schools.
This August, Lake High School students were welcomed into their new building. Highlights of the construction include wi-fi access, both public and secure, allowing wireless access to staff, students and guests. Each classroom has a multi-media, interactive projector allowing teachers to utilize relevant material to enhance their instruction. A new projection and sound system is available for meetings and performance in the new High School Auditorium as well as in the Media Center.
At the Middle and Elementary Schools, wi-fi is available throughout the campus and each classroom has a multi-media projector. Almost every classroom is outfitted with an interactive whiteboard, including SmartBoards, ENO Boards and MIMIO devices. Students have access to mobile laptop carts that can be reserved for a classroom. This provides computer access for special Internet research projects or other assignments involving technology.
At Lake Middle School, several teachers have embraced the benefits of creating online classrooms for their curriculum by creating Moodle sites. This has allowed them to expand their contact with students, provide additional resources and tap into the appeal of mobile access to the classroom. As we become even more dependent on mobile devices, using software such a Moodle can transform education.
Teachers at Lake also use an electronic attendance software package, including online assignments and gradebook features. Parents can access and monitor their child's progress though the Parent Portal and stay in communication with teachers.
